Vilnius University in Lithuania has appointed Professor Hans Kjeldsen from Aarhus University as Honorary Doctor of Science. The ceremony took place at Vilnius University on Thursday, October 10.

Hans Kjeldsen, a professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, was awarded the honorary doctorate for his asteroseismological studies of the structure of stars and for his close scientific ties with Vilnius University. Since 1999, he has worked closely with researchers from the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy (ITPA) at Vilnius University, including organizing and teaching at summer schools together with them.

In its recognition of Hans Kjeldsen's achievements, the academic senate of Vilnius University highlighted that he was the first in the world to discover starquakes in another star, similar to those known from the Sun. This method is now widely used to study the structure of stars and determine their age.

In his speech during the ceremony, Hans Kjeldsen emphasized the significant role that ITPA plays in his research activities and that his collaboration with Vilnius University not only continues but is growing stronger.
