Help prevent burglary and theft

Make sure to close the windows and doors before you go home, and do not leave any valuables lying in the car. With a little extra attention and care, we can all contribute to avoiding unpleasant surprises.

Many of you have unfortunately had the experience of meeting up at the office in the morning to find the computer and other articles of value gone, or going out to the car at the end of the day to be met by broken windows and an empty vehicle.

Even though the outer doors are locked and the security guards do their rounds at night checking buildings, it is not always enough to avoid burglary and theft. It is a problem at many parts of Aarhus University, particularly the buildings in the campus area.

Unfortunately one of the problems is that it is often far too easy for thieves to enter through open windows and unlocked doors, such as those on balconies, or doors that have been wedged to stop them from slamming.

The university spends a lot of money on repairing damage following a break-in, and the expenses are regrettable and unnecessary. However, it is particularly frustrating and annoying for those affected – and it could be you next time!

So help prevent burglary – all it takes is a little extra attention at the end of your working day.

  • Close the windows when you leave a room
  • Check that the windows in your office are closed when you go home
  • Remove wedges from doors leading into corridors, etc. when you go home
  • Lock balcony doors after you when you come in
  • Lock up personal valuables – during the day as well
  • Do not leave your valuables where they can be seen in the car

If you have any questions, please contact your local department of the Building Services.
