My research focuses on the management of health and welfare in pig herds. I work with both clinical, pathological, epidemiological and quantitative perspectives related to pig farming. Main areas include sow mortality, reduced antibiotic use, and management without tail docking. I work with organic as well as conventional herds.
I teach and supervise bachelor's-, master's-, post-graduate and PhD-level students in the veterinary and animal science education.
Cooperation with farmers and other actors in the farming industry plays an important role in my research. Generally, I strive to work cross-disciplinary and have fruitful collaborations with, e.g. historians, anthropologists, sociologists and economists.
Research-based policy advice plays an important role in my work. In this relation, I have, e.g. worked with disease problems in organic pigs, antibiotic usage and sow mortality.
